Dr. Tanaka has been one of the founding members of Oncolys's Board. He currently serves as a Professor and Chairman of Department of Gastroenterological Surgery, Transplant and Surgical Oncology of Okayama University Graduate School of Medicine, Dentistry and Pharmaceutical Sciences. Dr. Tanaka also serves many counsel roles at major medical and scientific institutions, such as Japan Cancer Association and International College of Surgeons Japan Section. He received Okayama Medical Prize (Hayashibara Prize) on June 1995 for his contributions. Dr. Tanaka received his M.D. and Ph.D. from Okayama University.
